Career Opportunities At The Countryman Of Derby

 

We are considering employing new members of staff to help with the day to day running of the business.

Duties in a gun shop vary daily and include serving customers, answering the phone, keeping the shop clean, booking postage for online orders and packing them, restocking the showroom, checking deliveries and then booking goods onto our stock control system. As the successful applicant gets used to working in the team and their knowledge broadens they will be asked to help with the many other tasks which have to be accomplished every day including cleaning and checking guns prior to sale, valuing guns, assembling rifle and air rifle outfits, maintaining and updating our website/social media pages, writing product descriptions to expand our online catalogue and to use in online advertising, ordering from suppliers and finding new product opportunities to sell in-store and online. We are flexible and happy to work with your time requirements where we can however Saturday is one of our busiest days and as such is a day on which we require a good compliment of staff.

Having stated the above we must stress that working at The Countryman is not an easy job, all our team push ourselves and each other to work hard and move the business forward, never in over 30 years trading has a member of staff had time to sit and read magazines or relax during working hours. When there aren't any customers to serve we move on to the next priority job whether that be packing mail order, cleaning, checking goods in, working on the website, etc. On the upside the day does pass very quickly as there is always so much to do.

Job Requirements

  • Live within a commutable distance of Derby
  • No criminal record or history of mental illness
  • Hard working, reliable and trustworthy with the ability to prioritise jobs and work in a self motivated manner
  • A good knowledge of sporting shotguns, rifles and air rifles would be perfect but an interest and preferably experience in at least one of these is required
  • The ability to learn about the products we sell so that customers can be correctly and competently advised (we have over 8000 product lines so there is a lot to learn)
  • Be able to religiously follow procedure as adhering to the law has to be our top priority
  • Available to work on the majority of Saturdays
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer literate is a must as many of the basic daily tasks involve a computer
  • Previous retail experience in the shooting industry would be beneficial as would retail experience in other industries but all backgrounds are considered

Salary is variable depending on previous experience and will be reviewed as experience and responsibility increase.
